Working to prevent Debit Card Fraud

Effective March 1, 2009, 1st Bank of Sea Isle City began blocking all International Transactions on our 1st Bank Consumer VISA® Debit Cards.

  • Q: What does this mean? A: You will not be able to use your 1st Bank Consumer VISA® Debit cards to make purchases online, over the telephone or in person if that transaction is processed in a foreign country.
  • Q: What types of transactions are affected? A: All transactions processed in a foreign country will be blocked. This includes Internet transactions (such as gaming sites, online pharmacies and some dating sites), telephone transaction (such as calls placed to certain 800 numbers) or in-person transactions in a foreign country.
  • Q: Why is 1st Bank blocking these transactions? A: 1st Bank of Sea Isle City feels that the risk of debit card fraud far outweighs the benefit of allowing these transactions to continue unintentionally. Within the banking industry there have been several substantiated cases of fraudulent transactions being initiated outside of the U.S., and our analysis shows that our customers do not, as a general rule, transact outside of the country.
  • Q: What if I'm leaving the country? A: If you are traveling outside the U.S., don't worry! Simply fill out a form at one of the branches (or call us to have one sent to you), and we will make sure that your card will work as well while you're gone as it does while you're home!
